Are You a Foxy Cacher?
Tension was high among the ASPGB committee as, due to circumstances beyond our control, the delivery of the event geocoin was running late. However, thanks to the excellent service of GxProxy, and the Allegheny Rangers who stepped up this year taking over the duties of the store, everyone got the coins that they ordered. This year’s winner in the contest for the event mascot featured on the coin and t-shirts was Articus Bates’ Red Fox design.
Once the weekend had begun, things ran smoothly, except for the weather being somewhat chilly. There had been plenty of positive feedback about last year’s multi-day, multi-event weekend, so once again The Stepping Stones started the weekend out on Friday with a flash mob in Bradford followed by the Friday night “Meet & Greet” sponsored by the Allegheny Rangers. The Pot Luck dinner there featured a lavish variety of goodies enjoyed by all who attended.
634 enthusiastic cachers showed up Saturday to enjoy a multitude of games, seminars, and caching-related activities. This definitely included a wonderful assortment of vendors that stocked everything a happy geocacher could want, from cache containers to geocache board games, GPS units, geocoins (of course), and even walking sticks. The Geobash raffle was once again expertly coordinated by Heartzap, and many tickets were sold to hopeful cachers. Thanks, as always to our sponsors that donated great prizes. Food was provided once again by Hot Diggity Dog who kept us all well fed. As always a large crowd formed around the welcome center around dusk to acquire the coords for the ever-popular ASPGB night caches.
Our visiting Lackey this year was Amy (theworldisfun), who was originally from this area but, of course, now lives in Seattle, WA, and works at Groundspeak Headquarters. She fit right in and even helped out in the Welcome Center. Thank you, Amy!
The traditional Sunday Pancake Breakfast was a big hit. Chef Bullseyeshooter flipped pancakes until everyone was fed. Once they were stuffed with delicious pancakes, most of the cachers moved right on to the CITO event hosted by Stepping Stones and did their share to clean up the park. Thank you to all who helped out. Also many, many thanks to the folks who made 2013’s big weekend a success.
