ASP GEOBASH V (2010)

ASP GEOBASH V (2010)

With the smashing success of ASPGB IV, it became apparent to the Committee that we were doing something right. It also became apparent that we would be needing a facility that could accommodate our vastly growing numbers. With an 25% increase in attendance each year, we were looking at a possible 1000 attendees for 2010! The Committee planned a meeting at the admin building for breakfast and then a tour of the facilities at Camp Allegany, the only possible location in ASP for such a group. The tour proved to be an inspiration to the Committee and plans quickly formed to make the most of all the large, well lit heated buildings.

The fifth anniversary mascot was voted to be a Porcupine and ATMouse set out to work her magic on the design. Chairperson Brownout kept plans moving throughout the year that included our own web domain at www.aspgeobash.org and incorporation as a non-profit organization. Plans also were made to have a ‘Bash Bus shuttle to help move visitors from the Camp Allegany area to the main parking lot at Redhouse Lake. The day of the event brought free WiFi and mass transportation to the park along with the usual GeoBash shower.

Most of the meals were provided throughout the weekend by Sapsaj and Topher who made good use of the Mess Hall keeping the 1100 hungry cachers well fed and on their way again quickly. Several vendors sold caching supplies in the vendor’s building where our Will Call store saw many visitors and record sales. Camp Allegany swarmed with activity throughout the day in the form of games, seminars, movies, and raffles. A geocoin Expo brought many traders and even more folks who were just curious as to what it was all about. Thanks to our generous sponsors we gave away geocoin “prizes” every minute for several hours.

Groundspeak Lackeys Miss Jenn and Moun10Bike joined us from Seattle, WA. in the afternoon to sign autographs and basicly let us mob them. The GeoBash’s fifth anniversary was also Groundspeak’s tenth anniversary so a birthday party with cake and D.J. capped the combined celebrations.

Sunday’s free pancake breakfast allowed many of our guests to start the day with a warm meal and a chance to spend a little more time doing what cachers like to do the most besides finding caches – visiting with each other. A few last stories and then a few long hugs and then a lot of good-byes, until next year!
